Pull an Airtable view into Excel with Power Query, refreshable
Downloading a CSV from Airtable and pasting it into a workbook every week gets old. Excel's Power Query can load a CSV from a URL and refresh it on demand, so with a link that always returns your Airtable view as CSV, the workbook updates itself.
What you need
- Excel with Get Data (Power Query), which is on the Data tab.
- A URL that returns the view as CSV. ViewCourier's live CSV link does that: connect a read-only Airtable token, create an export for the view, and click Create live CSV link on the dashboard. The setup is described step by step in the Google Sheets guide.
Load the view
- In Excel, go to Data → Get Data → From Other Sources → From Web.
- Paste the live CSV link and click OK. If Excel asks how to connect, choose Anonymous: the link itself is the key.
- Excel shows a preview of the CSV. Click Load. The view lands on a new sheet as an Excel table.
Keep it up to date
- Refresh All on the Data tab fetches the view again and replaces the table's contents.
- On a timer: open the query's Properties (Data → Queries & Connections) and tick Refresh every N minutes. You can also tick Refresh data when opening the file.
- ViewCourier may serve a cached copy for up to 10 minutes, so a very short interval won't show changes faster than that.
Things to know
- Edit in Airtable, not in Excel. A refresh replaces the loaded table, so typed changes in it are lost. Add your own columns, formulas and pivot tables next to it or on another sheet.
- The view decides what comes through: its filters, sort order and hidden fields define the rows and columns.
- Anyone with the link can read the data. Click New link in ViewCourier to replace it (then update the query's source in Excel), or Turn off to stop it.
Prefer a file in your inbox?
ViewCourier can also email the view as an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file every day, week or month. See how to export an Airtable view to CSV automatically.
